The idea was to create a space that allowed for interdisciplinary collaboration and research on issues in the life and health sciences. In the spirit of collaboration, Pacheco Koch was hired by Page Sutherland Page Architects as the civil engineering consultants for the University of Arlington’s Science, Engineering, Innovation, and Research (SEIR) building. With 230,000 square feet, four stories, and a basement, the project included conversion of Nedderman drive to a pedestrian corridor while maintaining an adequate drainage path for high volume rainwater runoff from the North, infrastructure improvements, including water, sanitary sewer, electric, data and hydronic lines to service the new building; providing safety and pedestrian access to trails with courtyard bio-swales, stabilized turf, and a sidewalk fire lane, and finally, analysis of the hydraulic model for Trading House Creek and a study of the underlying water table were critical for the site in order to provide safety from property damage due to potential storm events.
